Women's Hit by the Taffia Fitted T Shirt

There’s no doubt that A. Llewellyn Morris Humphrey, also known as 'Murray the Hump', was a very bad man. But he was a very smart man too.

Born in Chicago of Welsh parents from Llanidloes, Mid-Wales, Humphrey became Al Capone's chief lieutenant and was one of the most successful criminals in history. Murray organized the mob’s successful infiltration of legitimate businesses. The terms 'money laundering' and 'being taken to the cleaners' are said to originate from his corruption of the laundry business.

When Capone was imprisoned in 1933, Murray was described as America's Public Enemy Number One. He died in 1965, aged 66, not in a hail of bullets or in the electric chair but from a heart attack. He was imprisoned only once on a minor tax-evasion charge in the early 1930s.

When I came up with this piece, I was musing on a screenplay for a gangster movie, set in modern-day Cardiff Bay rather than Chicago, with Rhys Ifans playing the part of Humphrey.
