Carmarthen Cowboys T-Shirt

The inspiration for this piece came from reading an article about the sale of Welsh Black Cattle at the United Counties Show in Carmarthen. Earlier the same day, I had read something about King James I of England granting Carmarthen a charter, which amongst other things decreed that it should have two sheriffs. Although Carmarthen’s entitlement was apparently reduced to one sheriff in 1835, the role of sheriff continues to this day.

To my mind, a town that has both cows and a sheriff must also have cowboys, a fact confirmed when I read yet another article, this time on the Carmarthenshire County Council website, about a local government initiative to protect consumers from cowboy builders. Now I can’t get this Wild West image of Carmarthen out of my head.

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen are defrocked, it would seem to follow that cowboys are deranged. Don’t squat with your spurs on boys. Ye-ha!
