Aberdare Gauchos T Shirt

The Stereophonics originate from Cwmaman, a former mining village near Aberdare in South Wales.

Javier Weyler, the drummer, comes from Argentina, a big
country at the bottom of South America.

The valleys don’t bare even the slightest resemblance to the Pampas and yet the idea of gauchos from Aberdare caught my imagination. I had been thinking about the Welsh settlers who found protection in Argentina in 1865 and founded the Welsh-speaking town of Gaiman. This was at a time when the English were actively seeking to erase the Welsh language, culture and traditions.

I’d like to think some of these brave people may have gone from Aberdare and that they or their descendents ultimately became gauchos, free on the wide open spaces of the Pampas.
